This bacteria test kit enables user to find out if the sample water contains coliform bacteria. Coliform bacteria is a commonly used bacterial indicator of sanitary quality of foods and water. They are defined as rod-shaped Gram-negative non-spore forming bacteria which can ferment lactose with the production of acid and gas when incubated at 35–37°C. [American Public Health Association (APHA), Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater (19th ed.), APHA, Washington, DC (1995).]
The test requires the specimen water to be mixed with the testing agent in the small vial and then allowed to stand for 48 hours in a warm area to obtain an accurate result. Please note that the Bacteria Test is a screening test and cannot be used to certify water as safe or unsafe for drinking.
